In fact it was even further, to Mars no less… Björn Goerke gave an impressive speech at TechEd in Barcelona last November simulating a Mars exploration. In this presentation he entertains us one full hour while coding at the same time through the entire SAP “Digital” suite ( R/3, SAP Fiori, SAP HCP, SAP HCI, SAP HANA DB, IoT etc… ), pretty impressive and convincing.

My take on this :

• The Hana Cloud Platform as previously mentioned in my past July post is confirmed as the Digital Core for SAP and positions SAP clearly in the PaaS market.
• Björn wants to reassure developers that they are more needed then ever, something the recent Cloud revolution had somewhat put into doubt. Since the arrival of the HCP last year I would agree with him that we have a renewed and strong need for technical expertise especially when it comes to Integration Technologies. No doubt integration scenarios between IoT, Mobile, ERP Core and future SAP acquisitions or 3rs party best of breeds will provide plenty of exciting opportunities for businesses to gain a competitive edge.
• Improved SAP Fiori UIs and native mobile app implementation clearly displayed during the presentation. ( starting around minute 30 )
